Welcome to French at Heart, a photography blog with few words, but many pictures of a country I love, France. All of the photographs were taken by my husband, Dean Polis, and myself, Dawne, and edited in Adobe Photoshop. If you like what you see, I would be honored if you'd leave a comment. And if you would like to learn our Digital Photography secrets, and make photographs like these yourself, [ oh, yes, you can do it!] we would be happy to lead you on an image making adventure to France with us. Colza

C o l z a  i n  t h e  L o i r e  V a l l e y
Colza is in bloom now in France.
Here's what wikipedia has to say:
Colza oil is a nondrying oil obtained from the seeds of Brassica rapa, var. oleifera, a variety of the plant that produces turnips. Colza is extensively cultivated in FranceBelgiumthe United States, the Netherlands and Germany and Poland. In France, especially, the extraction of the oil is an important industry. In commerce, colza is classed with rapeseed oil, to which it is very closely allied in both source and properties. It is a comparatively nonodoriferous oil of a yellow colour, having a specific gravity varying between 0.912 and 0.920. The cake left after extraction of the oil is a valuable feed ingredient for pigs.

I did this photo 3 years ago as a study for a painting.
I still have yet to do the painting :\

  1. Hello Dawne

Your photo is beautiful and I will look forward to seeing you painting. You have described the rapeseed plant and its benefits so clearly. I was unaware that the plant was used as pig feed. Thank you for sharing this information.

All I can say is that I believe I saw fields of this when ZOOMING on the train from TOURS to PARIS. There was so much color and beauty that I had never seen before and we were going so fast that it all seems a blurr now, but a fine memory, quand même.....NOW DO YOU PAINT AS WELL????????????

AND....I pinned some photos of my home on my pin board, MA MAISON....if you are interested! LOVE! Anita

    1. Yes, Anita, I was zooming, too, in a bus, and shot this through the window! And yes, dear, I do paint, but not well enough for my inner critic, I fear...so that's why I "paint" photographs! Oh, i did pin your lovely pix the second I saw them!
      xx!!
